Thanks @shovel40, @Fiji1 and morning crew.

    Half-time wrap:

The ASX 200 cracked 8,000 for the first time as US stock futures built on record closes on Wall Street on Friday.

The Australian benchmark traded as high as 8,037.3 before trimming its advance to 58 points or 0.73% at 8,018.

Tech companies, consumer stocks, telcos and miners led a broad rally that lifted all sectors. The index's best performers this morning included Nanosonics, Seek, Mirvac and Afterpay-owner Block.

Gold miners were among the few drags as a "flight to safety" following a weekend assassination attempt on presidential candidate Donald Trump failed to eventuate. US stock futures kicked higher when trade resumed on Sunday night US time, and gold eased roughly 0.3%. The US dollar also advanced.

S&P 500 futures firmed 0.16%. Dow and Nasdaq futures also improved around 0.2%. On Friday, the S&P 500 rallied 0.55% to a new closing high.

Personal trading: Lovely start to the day with the AXE panic offering a cheap entry for the rebound. Also caught BIO near the low and took EXR.
