The share market threatened its biggest setback of the year after a wave of selling hit Wall Street's high-flying tech sector.
The ASX 200 dropped 107 points or 1.37% from Friday's record close as all 11 sectors retreated. Losses ranged from 0.14% for the defensive consumer staples sector up to 2.08% for materials.
This morning's action set the index on course for its one of its heaviest losses so far of 2024. The Australian benchmark has not suffered a triple-digit decline since a 105-point loss on the second session of the year.
US stocks fell on Friday after AI market leader Nvidia's run of records ended with a 10%+ intraday swing from a 5% gain to a 5.55% loss. That reversal helped pull the Nasdaq down 1.16% and the S&P 500 down 0.65%.
Personal trading: Tough morning. A skinny subsistence bounce trade in GHY is all I have to show.
