    Thanks @shovel40, @Fiji1, @uncleBuck and morning crew.

    Half-time wrap:

A record for gold and a fourth straight advance on Wall Street helped the Australian share market charge to within six points of its former peak before paring its advance.

The ASX 200 topped out at 8143.6, a level last seen on August 1. At the halfway mark, the index was ahead 24 points or 0.29% at 8099.

The gold sub-sector led the charge, jumping 5.17% after the yellow metal set a new high overnight. West African Resources put on 8.84%, Capricorn Metals 8.79% and Evolution Mining 8.17%.

Overnight, US stocks rose for a fourth session led by growth sectors ahead of a near-certain rate cut next week. The S&P 500 firmed 0.75%.

Personal trading: Too cautious to make a quid. Stalked ENV all the way down - hoped it would take a peek below 1c before any recovery. Placed a few other hail marys, but no result.
