In Indonesia I was with a satellite internet company... from the first day I could barely open google. Called them to come and disconnect and within the hour, lightning fast. Called them back to tell them to come and collect their stuff as I can only imagine they dial you down... makes you wonder what they do to fix your speed.
In Zambia the local internet guy was servicing 31 people with 30 accounts. Every day someones internet was down and he would just switch the accounts between houses so he could pocket an extra $40 a month!
