Half-time round-up:
A broad rally lifted the share market to a three-week high as regional markets welcomed Wall Street's overnight rebound.
The ASX 200 rose 30 points or 0.5% to 6211 mid-session during its third attempt in two weeks to crack and hold the 6200 level. There were solid gains across much of the bourse, including industrials +1.2%, utilities +1.2%, metals & mining +1% and energy +1%. The financial sector hovered just above break-even ahead of the anticipated release today of an interim report from the Royal Commission.
Overnight, the S&P 500 rallied 0.28% to end a four-session losing run. S&P 500 futures were recently ahead 3.75 points or 0.13%. China's Shanghai Composite advanced 0.75%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng 0.49% and Japan's Nikkei 1.7%.
Crude oil futures gained 14 cents or 0.19% this morning at US$72.26 a barrel. Gold futures added $1 or 0.08% at US$1,188.40 an ounce. The dollar was buying 72.14 US cents.
