Yes - but this wasn't a business update for investors. It was a marketing announcement. There is a massive difference. It was also essentially an ad to further potential merchants that this is what Afterpay brings.

The number of 1.5MN could easily be identified running the numbers out from the previous business update - as such this is not material. Material news would be severe slowdown in growth or speeding up of growth in either customers, TTV, merchants etc. Business as usual growth is not material news requiring an announcement each month.

There is every chance there will be an announcement soon, combining some of these & confirming numbers (possibly hitting 2Mn after 12 full months?, & detailing launch in the UK (though once again, we know about this, so material news would be early engagement numbers, customers, merchants).
