I agree with you except I don't think Zipmoney are building for the future, I think they made a large mistake in their model and are trying to not go bankrupt. Their margins are frighteningly low and bad debts frighteningly high.
I don't think Afterpay want to loan larger than $1000. That increases their risk. There is very little risk in the small payments.
Government changes are always a risk but I don't think it is going to occur due to the unintended consequences which that would entail.
There is also no evidence that people can't afford the small loans Afterpay is offering and the losses are still mostly due to fraud rather than inability to pay.
