Although it doesn't fit with the narrative of an unstoppable growth machine, Afterpay's underlying sales in its key US market were flat from the June to September quarter at $US1.6 billion ($2.2 billion). That's right, zero growth quarter on quarter.

Research out of Citi this week suggests Klarna added 1 million customers in the US over the past three weeks, more than the 900,000 customers Afterpay added over the whole of the September quarter.Afterpay says its US customer acquisition growth accelerated to more than 15,000 customers a day in October, but that still leaves it miles behind Klarna on the latest data.
