It’s interesting to compare the geography and climate of the site selected by TSI and a traditional blue weber agave growing region like Tequila, Jalisco in Mexico. Barring altitude differences (over 1000m higher in Tequila) and proximity to the coast (200km vs 6km at TSI property), the respective rainfall averages and seasonality is a close match, as is humidity and latitude from the equator.
One hopes that the crop is a success, which leads to a new industry for the QLD/Australian economy which TSI will be at the forefront.
There are many challenges to overcome of course, not the least being prolonged water-logging due to flooding, fungi and insect pests, which all may be a learning experience as a crop pioneer.
The extreme precipitation event, now roughly estimated as approx. 500-860mm over the last week in the Eden Lassie Creek area, will be about all that Mother Nature can throw at the plants (except possibly wind damage from a cyclone), so if the crop is undamaged, will be a successful trial and tick in the box for planning and crop management.
As for VRs ad hominem attacks, either VR is a part of TSI team that knows something or he is just a typical upramper who hates any poster of information who spoils the narrative he thinks he controls. I suspect not part of the management team as his comments are inane (“management takes care of it by having it enclosed and protected well before such a weather event”). Does he think management have a 200 hectare retractable roof system and levees surrounding the property?
