I see it a little different. The bankers wanted money off COP. Imo I don't think COP were going to talk with anyone back then. The longer they delayed the better for them. I think they would rather pay more now in preference to paying one red cent back then. There was a reason they accepted little for SNE. They were desperate for sales of deepwater to pay down debt.
