Whilst in general terms, I agree with your post, there are exceptions, namely those:
- on the bottom of the wages/salary ladder, who as result, are unable to adequately provide for their retirement;
- unfortunate to become so extremely sick ,early in their working life. that they are unable to work thereafter;
- by nature of their work, or some unforseen accident, are unable to adequately provide for their retirement.
Having noted the above exceptions there is no doubt, from my personal experience, that are too many people in Australia who have no compunction in taking advantage of their fellow citizens welfare generosity. Successive Governments, epitomised by the recent revelation that the Sydney bomber Man Haron Monis was on welfare, for almost his entire life in Australia, epitomises the relaxed attitude to welfare amongst our elite. and those entrusted to ensure it is only given to those in real need.
Let's hope the current investigation reveals the culprits in this disgraceful episode of inadequate welfare supervision, without hurting those in real need. If anyone can achieve this, it is Scott Morrison. But those responsible for such gross lack of supervision of our welfare system, must be made to pay.
