    My mother-in-law is in aged care and generally
    she is getting good care.
    She had 2 falls ; the first one she broke her hip
    and the second one a bone fracture.

    There is a resident nurse & a GP available on call
    and her medications are well supervised and
    appropriate, IMO. We have a review of them
    every 6 months.

    We and other family members visit as often as we can
    but IMO aged care homes should have/encourage more
    volunteers . From what I see its a rather lonely
    existence and many seem to not avail of the inhouse
    social activities and instead stare at the telly or catnap.

    The institutionalisation of aged care and then its provatisation
    has evolved into a 'God's Waiting Room" system where
    the aged are locked away (out of sight/out of mind) and
    bed like caged hens and in many cases pilled-up to the eyebrows.

    IMO there has to be a better family/community solution .
    Imagine if we did this to our children under 5!
