Our aged care system is in need of a root and branch overhaul. I agree with moondoong and pintohoo. More money does not guarantee a better outcome, to wit: our alleged education system. It has swallowed heaps of our money only to be outperformed by other countries such as Estonia (for Gawd's sake). Mr Moondoong also says we assume that the government is there to fall back on.
My take is a complete overhaul. Where will the money come from? We could start by ceasing to chase people up and down the Indian Ocean. That AUD$9.6 billion would go a long way to improve the system. Faced with a set of scales with alleged refugees on one side and Australia's aged and frail on the other the choice is simple. Do we help our own or not.
