the difficult question is why is the pension more than the dole? (after 27 years of compulsory super saving)

Agreed, dole payment is too little, aged pension is too much. pintohoo is right, it's all about 'votes'. No politicians have any guts to stand up to change this out of date policy.

DSP gets paid the same rate of payment as aged pension, enjoying the same privilege of all the discounts & concessions , that why there are many long term unemployed tried whatever reasons to get into DSP. Once gets into DSP, it's like getting an aged pension in advance.
There are 800k on DSP with only a population of 25mil in Aus
Can you believe that 1 out of 8 people in Aus saying they are too sick to work.

This unfairness and different rates of payment created a lot of loopholes. To be fair, I reckon there should be one rate of payment, increases dole but reduce aged.
