Yes there is a logical reason why the 2 payments are different, as someone pointed out in a previous post, a pensioner has retired and will no longer be working. An unemployed person should not be able to survive on the dole.
We have a very small number of dole bludgers who do not wish to work for that very reason. Yes it is possible for a few dole unemployed to share a house and not bother working but on the whole most on unemployment benefits are
motivated to look for work. Increase that benefit and the incentive reduces.
