"The levy and the National Welfare Fund began on January 1, 1946, and contributions were shown separately on workers’ personal tax assessments for 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1950, with the money paid straight into the special fund from which claims were paid out."

So, all the retired people in Australia should get pensions because a fund ran for five years and workers in those days paid money into it????? The last payee would have paid in some 66 years ago and wouldn't be alive now.

    Geezz.

The $1,000 per week is just garbage. What about the increase in the number of retirees, yearly, the CPI adjustment, and the acturian's analysis as to how many years would each retiree be expected to live. Even if the fund existed, this is a load of bs. It doesn't become an "entitlement" because of a decision by politicans some 70 years ago, esp. as by 1950 that decision was REVERSED.

Get over it people, the workers who paid in are long deceased. You did not contribute!!!! Unless you are very ancient.
