Clearly AGL does understand the change that are coming, but needless to say their motive as an energy retailer is to maximise the benefit to AGL as a whole (retailer + power generator). I understand this, but it means their motives do not necessarily align with the needs of their customers. It's a bit like the Big Banks providing financial advice to customers from staff incented to sell the Bank's financial products.
For this reason I was happy to switch from AGL to another retailer earlier this year - to avoid the conflict of interest. In QLD, retail power prices are regulated, so there's no great difference in price between retailers (other than the choice between paltry and less paltry feed in tariffs for excess solar), but I certainly feel better!
