the only part of the australian grid that isn't linked is NT & WA... I would call it nigh on impossible to not have the wind blowing (day & night) or the sun not shining (day only) across a land mass the size of our country.
It will require a lot more scale + storage mediums (such as battery & pumped hydro) + on demand firming plant (gas) - but Australia can exist with a lot more renewables than currently form the mix.
100%? Given time.... 70% - absolutely! and it will happen a lot quicker than the incumbents factored on.
