Citigroups commentary on the results:
"AGL Energy Ltd (AGL.AX) — 1H FY21 in line, headwinds worsen
into FY22+ despite cost out
Australia/NZ | Diversified Utilities, Multi-Utilities | Neutral
FY21 earnings are largely unchanged given a result which was operationally in
line, and reiterated guidance. Our FY22 earnings are 25% higher on cost out,
however FY23 earnings have been downgraded 11% on revised assumptions on
gross margins in both wholesale gas and wholesale electricity. Maintain Neutral
with target price 3% higher at A$10.85/share. AGL stated that the planned
$150m FY22 cost out wouldn’t fully offset the headwinds to earnings. Inside we
assess whether consensus EBITDA appropriately forecasts headwinds in excess
of cost out for FY22. We include detailed questions for management inside."
