Batteries will stay because we need them, the success of society is pretty much built on them. Unless a major breakthrough happens in cobalt-less batteries we will need them for the foreseeable future, it'll likely drive the price of products up but I'm sure people will absorb that as part of the "new tech" development thought. Look at the price of iPhones...
