Lol acreage I'll be a monkey's uncle if Defender isnt a producer.
Sinec I've got some spare time atm I've been re-reading the Defender progress announcements. Another clue as to whether Defender will produce and why TB (and HAL) dates back to when they did the DFIT on stage 1 of the lateral. I dont know if its been posted before but I dug up a link to a pdf brochure by HAL for its DFIT process:
http://www.halliburton.com/public/pe/contents/Data_Sheets/web/H/H03492.pdf
Take note of what its used for (it has several uses), one use being to measure the formation pressure, and also an estimate of well producivity. They will therefore know what the formation pressure is from this test, which would have led them to the conclusion they have announced about the well pressure balance when they didnt see oil shows with the frac fluid returning to the surface.
However, the most interesting statement in the brochure is the following benefit stated at the top of the right hand column of page 1:
"Determine pore pressure, leak-off and permeability to help optimize completions and make the go/no-go decision on each zone."
This suggest to me if the DFIT results were negative such results may be sufficient reason for HAL not to proceed with the completion of the well at that point - important in this case since they are paying.
Yet they decided to continue with the well completion...
Defender will remain intriguing perhaps for another couple of weeks, but we have been given many tantalizingly positive clues along the way...
Cheers, Sharks.
