TZ Limited (TZL) 54c
ON the shelf of a northern Melbourne post office, a case of fine Mornington Peninsula pinot noir is gathering dust, rather than entertaining your columnist's palate.
It's a pain for working folk to pick up parcels between 9 and 5, so we laud Aussie Post's move to introduce 24-hour parcel collection -- based on electronic parcel lockers -- across 100 outlets.
The initiative has provided a welcome flow-on boost to TZ, the Mark Bouris-chaired technology asset outfit charged with supplying the lockers on a trial basis.
Through its distribution partner Pitney Bowes, TZ initially will supply three banks of 56 lockers, the first to be installed at Brisbane's GPO outlet. To anyone who recalls their schoolkid days there's a "so what" flavour to installing lockers. But the new ones bear no resemblance to the old receptacles for mouldy lunches and sandshoes, as they involve a hi-tech regime of remote sensing.

Despite its high-profile apprentice-tormenting chairman, TZ's business has been somewhat inscrutable (jargon such as "infrastructure asset protection" doesn't help). But TZ is exposed to the go-go areas of online shopping and remote access and monitoring of sensitive facilities. According to Veritas Securities analyst Brent Mitchell, TZ has transformed its operations over the past two years, including settling legal and licensing disputes and reducing debt.
TZ posted a $15.6m loss on revenue of $22m in 2010-11. Mitchell forecasts this shortfall will abate to $8.5m this year and $1.8m next year, ahead of a $4m profit in 2013-14. TZ shares have gained 8c (16 per cent) over the last two days. We wouldn't be buying after such a spurt, given the long lead time to profitability. But TZ is exposed to go-go sectors and our message to Bouris is they're not fired -- yet.
