Another Q to Peter was “which project is likely to be the 1st commercial project ? “
Peter replied “if you ask 3 different directors you’ll probably get 3 different answers”.
A lot depends on the timeline of Government approvals- it could be Poland, Tanzania*
or possibly Asia^.
He mentioned that it could be quite difficult negotiating approvals because of having to deal with
different levels of Govt (eg Federal and local Mayor).
* I’m sure Peter said Tanzania, but the slide in the presentation states the “ Currently UCG to Power project in RSA with Exxaro Resources” and further “UCG projects in Sub-Saharan Africa” No direct mention of Tanzania in the presentation, and this was not picked up at the meeting.
^Another Q to Peter was “Has the Federal Govt FTA with China changed any negotiations with China in regard to UCG projects”. It wasn’t acknowledged that the FTA with China hasn’t been completed to date. However, Peter stated while it hasn’t made any difference to negotiations, it appears to have increased enquiries from China regarding JV projects (“up to 1 a night”).
