Just thinking further about questions for the AGM. I cannot attend but I have voted.
I am wondering where the growth areas of practice will be.

Speaking from a position of comparative ignorance,
1.Personal injury. The growth in these actions has caused govts to consider putting the clamps on. There is a cost to the community through increased insurance premiums etc and govts will retrict it in the future through legislation.
2 NIHL. Certainly open to manipulation. Everyone starts to lose their hearing from 25 years only so open to abuse and hence moves by govt to control it.

    3. Corporate Law. Tied up by the big firms with strong international connections.Do not see great growth opportunities here. A working class firm such as sgh cannot be all things to all men. A remunerative area but cannot see SGH making inroads here.
    4. Family Law. Controlled by small specialist firms who handle the complex matters where the big money is . Not likely to change.

    5. Class actions. Introduction of class actions a real godsend to SGH with reduced involvement of unions in sending other work to labour firms like SGH. However there are limits. The extension of these actions particularly spurious ones is a real worry for business and there could be political pressure in the future to restrict the ambit of these actions.
I am just interested in what Grech and co. have to say.
