In my opinion, some of the speculation on his private life was going above the role of this forum. His statement gave more than enough information and if forum posters don't like it then sell up. It's not harmless fun to speculate on the personal life of Directors or employees.
I'm on a thread with another company where forum members are speculating on what sort of cancer the CEO's wife has (he had to step down to care for her). It's beyond gross.
