Yeah. The Limiting Factor has a video where they go through the existing publications (at the time) of natural vs synthetic. The upshot was that high quality natural and high quality synthetic are perhaps similar in efficiency, whereas garbage natural and garbage synthetic are relatively poor.
A company like novonix would of course use multisource mixed natural graphite from China to do its comparison, because it makes their product look good.
Regardless, I agree, if Talga creates some batteries with the same cathode and electrolyte, but varies the anode, that is the kind of stuff we shareholders would love to see. As a counterpoint, if Mark Thompson has and is trying to keep a competitive edge over competition, secrecy may be the best way to do it. Until Talga establishes itself as a brand name which is synonymous with quality to OEMs, there is strong incentive to keep things quiet.
From the offhand comments we have heard from executives, they are very pleased with the product. In any case, Talga will supply anode cheaper than china, ethically sourced, close to auto OEMs. Even if our natural graphite anode was china-poor quality, battery manufacturers would mix in as much as the cheap Eco-friendly stuff as they could afford, while still hitting their mileage targets.
MT also says that he thinks instead of 50% natural 50% synthetic the battery blends will move to 70% natural and 30% synthetic, which would be fantastic for Talga if true.
Even in the most bear-case, garbage quality anode produced comparatively poor product which varies between batches, I believe Talga could easily sell their product. On the other hand if Talga is premier anode quality, as MT and other executives indicate, in part due to the natural spheroidization already present in the ore, Talga is sitting on another kind of black gold.
