Another point of interest driving from Westport to Reefton you pass through the Buller Gorge, in places the rail line can be seen on the opposite side of the Buller river. It can be appreciated that with heavy rain there are numerous slips in the gorge.
This and the trestle bridges expose the vulnerability of the line.
