Calling the AGM first could backfire on the current board.
There are likely to be more disgruntled share holders at this event than happy ones. Still, when you think about it, what have they got to lose? It may be a last effort to persuade share holders to support the current board.
If the AGM turns to crap, the currend directors may opt to resign before the EGM starts?
