How's about a compromise on this:
1. We judge the performance of the board & executive team on their ability to deliver sales in accordance with their declared business plan objectives.
2. We gratefully accept any "out of left field" sales with smiles on our faces, as a bonus. But we don't count windfalls as contributing to the tally when we assess whether business plan objectives have been met.
