In case anyone is actually wondering, the main distinction between ponds and lakes is not surface area, it is whether all the water is in the photic zone (light reaches the bottom) or if it includes an aphotic zone (some of it is deep enough to prevent light reaching it).
In our case, the ponds are deliberately designed not to include aphotic areas, because their function is evaporation, so using lakes would be counterproductive for our purposes.
It would be unusual for a naturally occurring non ephemeral body of water to have this sort of surface area without some aphotic zones, so generally they would be lakes.
So, yep, these are really huge ponds.
While I'm posting, I'll mention that I topped up this week and was pleased with today's action. I didn't see anything new in the announcement, but the market seemed to like it.
Enjoy your weekends, everyone!
