I tried to investigate it without much luck.

I tracked broker data for something like 6 months. I could track net positions over time but the problem was I had no idea when a campaign started.

I also spotted a couple of big buys/sells but they weren't much in the scheme of things.

The likes of UBS are masters of hiding their tracks.

It wouldn't surprise me if its simply some type of arbitrage profits on rise and fall controlled by bots. Hence why UBS in particular seems to always have hundreds of trades at very a small parcels. I just find it hard to believe their is that many retail out there trading for pips across the board.

Also, the trading platforms such as IG markets etc that allow shorting need to maintain a pool(s) so maybe that's were most of the shorts are held.

Who knows really that's why faith in FA is key I suppose.
