my experience for Oz counter meals was that they were mostly cheap and the quality varied, but, it didn't matter a great deal, because they were cheap.
If you found a place that was good - then, you stuck with it until it went bad.
Some remained great value for years.
But then, the cheap ones got less and less - the quality didn't change though - it was still variable.
I don't know what the prices are in the last few years, but eventually, there were very few if any that were cheap - and the quality was still variable - few were really good, most were ordinary to poor
my guess is now that most are very poor value - could not ever be called cheap.
