Ahmadinejad, the current president of the Islamic Republic of Iran wants to be in the session of the UNSC for what? Almost all Iranian and international political observers agree that there is nothing that he can do in the New York session of the UNSC to stop the adoption of a new resolution by the UNSC for imposing more sanctions against the Islamic Republic in lieu of the defiance of the Iranian regime to accept the enrichment of uranium in its nuclear facilities (and pave the way for negotiations with the international community for further steps). So, why he is going there?
My guess: he is going to drop a bomb there: he will declare that Iran is ready to accept the temporary suspension of the enrichment process and ask the members of the UNSC to put a hold on the adoption of the new resolution until the new round of negotiations make the details of such a measure clear.
Ahmadinejad knows very well that anything short of this will be serious blow to his already shaky presidency. The critics in Iran, including people in high places, like Hashemi Rafsanjani (his defeated rival in the presidential elections and winner of the elections for the Assembly of the Islamic Experts, and also Shariatmadari, the editor of the Kayhan newspaper, who is the Deputy of the Intelligence Ministry and direct mouthpiece of the Supreme Leader), do not avoid calling a political naﶥ and a failed experience.
Out of Iran, the members of the 5+1 group) the permanent members of the UNSC and Germany), do not consider him as good news anywhere. His presence in any occasion means the repetition of the extremist views, insistence on lack of compromise and indication of the reluctance of the Iranian regime to observe the international rules, regulations, norms, and courtesy.
Therefore, the presence of the Ahmadinejad in New York needs to be a special occasion and a turning point. I think he is going to declare that Iran is ready for the dance.
