Furthermore, the vast majority of intercourse where the virus is passed on to an uninfected person occurs during asymptomatic shedding - where the infected person didn't know they had the virus and had no symptoms.
If Prof Ian Fraser can reduce viral shedding by 50%, he can theoretically reduce the rate of new infection by 50% - but that relies on 100% of everyone with the virus discovering they have it (currently, only 20% of people with it know it).
