    The East India Company, established in 1600 was an early multinational corporation. This British multinational enterprise participated in international trade and exploration and operated trading posts in India.1 Other examples include the Swedish Africa Company, founded in 1649, and the Hudson's Bay Company, founded in 1670..."

    By the way, "the East India Company (EIC) was first England 's and then Britain 's tool of colonial expansion in India and beyond. Revenue from trade and land taxes from territories it controlled allowed the EIC to build up its own private armies, collectively the largest armed force in South and South East Asia."

    That it is an example of what happened to states with fragile governments. They ended by being colonized and administrated by companies.
