There is no doubt that the USA stretched itself too far, partly due to the laziness, and lack of courage, of its European partners, after the collapse of the Berlin Wall. A collapse brought about by the refusal to accept the inevitability of Soviet dominance by Margaret Thathcer and Ronald Reagan, with a degree of help from Gorbachev, who recognised the collapse of the Soviet Union it was inevitable.
The USA is finally recognising the limits of its power. But it is by no means finished as a global power by its detractors, and those countries still dominated by dictatorial mindsets eg Russia and China.No doubt some on this site would prefer these countries to dominate the world, at the expense of democracies such as Australia and its subsequent crushing of free thought, already under threat trough the evil of Political Correctness.
