But it is by no means finished as a global power by its detractors, and those countries still dominated by dictatorial mindsets eg Russia and China.No doubt some on this site would prefer these countries to dominate the world, at the expense of democracies such as Australia and its subsequent crushing of free thought, already under threat trough the evil of Political Correctness.

The important thing is to recognise that their power is declining, so that we aren't relying on them for our defence. The Britons found how ineffective that was 1,700 years ago when pax Romana collapsed.
