I think the upper house is a good thing to keep for the purpose...

    I think the upper house is a good thing to keep for the purpose it was intended but the way they get elected is certainly a big part of the problem.
    I am sure that the founding fathers never intended it to do what it does in the modern era of politics. Nor would they have expected to see the calibre people voted in that we are getting now.

    I don't think that the voters can be blamed for the way they vote for the upper house so much as the way that the system just does not reflect the true wishes of the electorate.
    I mean who in their right mind would expect that if they voted for party A some lunatic fringe dweller or independent got their vote.
    The system seems to work better for the lower house but is way off the mark for the upper.
