I never flew twins and so only have readings associated with a basic PPL remembrances to rely on ...... and of course that hazy dash cam photo which suggests a controlled decent (but as you suggest no ability to climb {or maintain existing altitude}). If the wind was a tad choppy it would make everything else more difficult as well.
Back to my original point, the runway finishes just after the piano keys so there is nowhere to go if anything goes wrong. Add to that any potential pressure by a tower to take an intersection departure and you jus have to hope nothing goes wrong.
Melbourne needs the old airport ...... but there is no way I know to overcome the complete incompetence of town planners and the local Council in years past.
