All have differing strategies and risk reward expectations. In a general market downturn a lot of stocks head south unfortunately - not just mining. To make matters worse, anyone caught out with margin calls just adds to the overall volatility. Those with longer term horizon may be rewarded.
Perhaps adding in a downturn may help - if one has the nerves, funds and stomach. No easy solution.
