If car production switched to be 100% electric, then global copper demand would increase from 20 million tonnes to perhaps 24 million tonnes/year or 20%. Lithium demand would need to increase from 100,000 tonnes to perhaps 700,000 tonnes/year or 600% increase. So from a automobile/ElonMusk point of view, lithium is the critical metal.
However, for other aspects of electrification such as electric generation using wind & solar power, copper, zinc and silicon are more important.
