    I have a reasonably extensive reach on copper happenings around the world.
    Apart from Ivanhoe Mines run by copper legend Robert Friedland there are virtually no miners expanding copper production. Nearly all of the big players are experiencing lower grades, higher costs, water shortages and major capital shortfalls to fund badly needed maintenance. And the world's biggest copper miner, Codelco, has so many governance and mangement issues I wouldn't know where to start. The only exception to this is BHP with plans for a bigger copper province in South Australia however this is some years off. Rio is going underground at Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia but it will take time and its fractious relationship with that government means anything could happen.

    Let's hope copper continues its run. My betting is that its heading to well over US$4.50
