"Domestic air travel capacity in New Zealand will recover to just under 80 per cent of pre-Covid-19 levels by the end of the year, a leading aviation analysis group says.

Australian-based aviation research center Capa - Centre for Aviation made the forecast based on government statements, airline network announcements, capacity projections and underlying demand.

It said domestic seat numbers were expected to reach close to 40 per cent of 2019 levels in June now that national restrictions had eased.

Under Alert Level 1 there are no restrictions on travel and physical distancing is no longer be required on public transport and planes."

" New Zealand seat numbers would gradually rise to about 60 per cent of 2019 levels by early October, Capa said. Capa chairman emeritus Peter Harbison said a potential trans-Tasman bubble had been factored into its modelling from August, with some Pacific Island linkages also added. "
