American Journal of Infection Control.
This journal reported alarming statistics yesterday.
- The use of Ultrasound probes is being accepted in more and more hospital departments
- The various departments do not communicate with each other
- For semi-critical procedures, such as ultrasound-guided tissue sampling procedures (e.g. biopsies), the survey demonstrated there was 41% non-compliance, a 61% non-compliance was also identified in the ultrasound-guided delivery of drugs/therapeutics, such as nerve blocks or intra-articular injections and for ultrasound probe usage across
non-intact skin e.g. burns, skin breakdown or partially healed wounds, non-compliance was 45%.- This report has the potential to cause an earthquake in the field of infection control.
- In my opinion this low compliance is fuelled by the cumbersome traditional procedures of infection control.
- The medical profession is the most CONSERVATIVE profession you can find. Outdated practices and environmentally hazardous.
- There is a once in a lifetime opening for NAN to educate the hospital community, to improve communication among departments
- NAN is introducing Trophon 2 in first quarter 2019. It has automatic communication features that facilitate intra hosital departmental communication and records for hospital management . These records may be subpoened by courts
- The sky is the limit for NAN
