For semi-critical procedures, such as ultrasound-guided tissue sampling procedures (e.g. biopsies), the survey demonstrated there was 41% non-compliance, a 61% non-compliance was also identified in the ultrasound-guided delivery of drugs/therapeutics, such as nerve blocks or intra-articular injections and for ultrasound probe usage across
non-intact skin e.g. burns, skin breakdown or partially healed wounds, non-compliance was 45%.
This report has the potential to cause an earthquake in the field of infection control.
In my opinion this low compliance is fuelled by the cumbersome traditional procedures of infection control.
The medical profession is the most CONSERVATIVE profession you can find. Outdated practices and environmentally hazardous.
