No $1.36 , instos don't pay per trade, more likely an annual fee to the ASX, divided over zillions of trades, hence their robots algo's can play with 1 and 2 shares at a time. As an individual punter you can sign up for a "trading" account which with some platforms can be very cost effective per trade of course depending on how many trades you make a day, I would imagine it's impossible for a retailer to get into alogo trading though, happy to be corrected if someone is doing it out there?.
