One system is simpler than the other.

Hydrogen will have it’s place. But let’s gets something straight, IT IS NOT A FUEL.
Neither is lithium. These are just all energy carrier mechanisms.

Another thing to realise... fuel cell tech REQUIRES batteries. Toyota’s Mirai production fuel cell vehicle still uses their synergy drive tech which has a battery in the loop for low speed driving. At higher speeds, the fuel cell takes over.

Hydrogen is going to be great in certain applications. I can see it being used in aviation to power aircraft in a hybrid system, however batteries are still going to be required to provide instantaneous thrust.

This doesn’t even begin to cover home storage and distributed power generation... hydrogen doesn’t stack up there.

The other thing battery EVs have going for it? The billions of dollars or investments currently rooting for battery technology. That money isn’t going to want to see a competitor. The momentum has already swung towards battery EV.

Lithium is still the most charge dense chemistry available in a battery. I see new battery chemistries every week that promise to topple lithium. Guess what. None of them are easily commercialised. It took Lithium Batteries decades to get to where they are today as a viable commercial product. They’ve been around since the 70s.
Ultracapacitor tech is decades away from commercial viablility.

Not to mention Lithium is the lightest of alkali metals with it’s high valence electron. Perfect for batteries. It will stay in a battery chemistry in one form or another for the foreseeable future.
