Lets be very clear.

If you are an Australian citizen, and hold for 12 months then you get the CGT Discount (Not Traders designated by the AT0).

If you sell and rebuy and intend to hold for another 12 months then you get the discount again from the new buy date 12 months later.

Yes you will incur a capital tax event, but you will gain the benefit of a lower share price purchase, IF YOU CAN DO THAT, at your next CGT event.

If you have the funds to support this strategy it can work well. But the tax implications should be considered. IMO

Thats a good point I had not considered but may be worth looking into for me as I have got nearly all of my holdings over 12 months now and have made massive gains on the portfolio. Was prepared to take the ride and guaranteed gain of the CGT discount. Sell soonish and purchase again in a SMSF makes sense to me now. Will have to discuss it with the bean counter.
