Chalk and cheeze Brushup. Those belt and road projects required massive capital injection from Malaysia to develop with payback uncertain but at best way into the future.
Lynas is costing Malaysians nothing, providing meaningful employment for 600+ of its people and contributing significant dollars to the Malaysian economy. This is already a significant win/win for Malaysia.
From my perspective the only losers at present are the long suffering Lynas shareholders. Does nobody in Malaysia care about those who have invested capital to make all this possible? If not, I am afraid comments from the Australian High Commissioner on future investment in Malaysia will become fact and these actions by multinationals will cause far more damage to Malaysian economy than would be gained by changes to Lynas' Malaysian tax status.
