Gillard's assertions about the effects of her new tax are mainly opinion, not fact. My opinion is that her opinions and predictions regarding these effects are nonsense. Considering the state of the world, it's potentially suicidal for the economy and inflation.
This stuff won't hurt the Greens too much because their voters are mainly in fairy land, living off the state anyway. However this could be catastrophic for Labor, as they have a different support base.
Brown's big smirk is sourced from a very deep, low level cunning. I think he's outsmarted Labor on this because it's Gillard who will take all the heat and damage. She can't offload blame onto him without looking weak.
