Just for the record, from Iress profile;
The last dividend was paid in March 2009. Amount $131 million.
A special cash dividend of 15 cents per share was paid in February 2007, Amount $329 milllion.
The only share issue since listing in 1995, was a 1 for 22 at $3.05 SPP in December 2001.
The most recent official notification lists the NAB, CBA, and Westpac (incl BT) as owning 25% of Qantas. All but one of its biggest holders are finance companies of one kind or another. The numero uno holder is the Franklin Templeton Fund with 15.4% as of two weeks ago.
The share price appears to be supported by the idea that Qantas' parts are worth much more than the whole. This means that a rise in share price from here could be an increasing indication of a sale and break up of the company?
There is no way of knowing exactly how much money the big three banks have lost in Qantas, but it must be substantial. Nobody is talking about their interest or what they might do. I'm sure Westapc, the NAB and the CBA would be very happy to have the government guarantee their positions.
